Bolshevik Cabaret
Music theater, dance, and opera by Soviet composers in observance of the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution. (And yes, the October Revolution actually occurred November 7-8.) The program includes scenes from the suprematist opera Victory Over the Sun and Dimitri Shostakovich’s underground opera Rayok, in addition to stagings of declamations, and instrumental, vocal, and choral music from this extremely fertile period of Soviet artistic creativity.
