DANCE

Since the Dance program at College of Marin was founded in 1972 by the late Carol Ott, thousands of students have stepped, twirled, and pirouetted through the campus on their way to university and college programs, professional careers, and other creative ventures. The dance program has a rich curricular diversity and also serves the creative goals of the community–at–large.

The dance discipline at College of Marin offers a comprehensive associate degree in dance. College of Marin’s six highly-trained dance instructors teach technique classes in beginning to advanced levels of ballet, modern, jazz, choreography, conditioning/injury prevention and technique analysis, tap, African Haitian, salsa, and hip-hop.

Faculty members have studied with illustrious teachers nationwide, owned dance companies, and have been members of dance companies in the U.S. and abroad. Many have received grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the State of California, Marin County, and the Marin Arts Council.

The dance faculty collaborates on musicals, plays, operas, and movement for theatre Improv. From chorus members to main characters, our dance students have also participated in both drama and music productions. Now that our three departments—Dance, Drama, and Music, are in one building, all to our creative selves, we welcome you with open arms!
