College of Marin Emeritus faculty member Paul Smith performs works by two masters of the grand virtuoso tradition of the Romantic Era, as well as two works by the great Italo/Austrian pianist/composer/intellectual Ferruccio Busoni. The works of Schumann and Liszt both are based on literary ideals, and the two works of Busoni use existing musical masterpieces as their basis.
Paul Smith has been serving the musical needs of Marin County for 50 years as solo and chamber pianist, director of contemporary music ensembles, numerous musical theater productions including 25 years with the annual Mountain Play, and as founder/director of Contemporary Opera Marin, an internationally recognized chamber opera company performing smaller works of the last 100 years, as well as forgotten gems from earlier times.
