The College of Marin Symphony Orchestra presents symphonic works of Bedrich Smetana and Antonin Dvorak, two brilliant Czech composers whose music has had a lasting impact in their homeland and beyond.  Also on the program is music by Bartok and Brahms, and the afternoon concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov's dazzling Cappriccio Espagnol!

About the Performers

The Orchestra

Founded in 1930, the College of Marin Symphony Orchestra performs masterworks of the symphonic literature. The ensemble rehearses Monday evenings, and includes COM students, high-school students, and members of the area community.

Jim Stopher, Music Director

Jim Stopher is a conductor, pianist, composer, and educator.  Now in his third season as Music Director of the College of Marin Symphony Orchestra, Stopher recently completed four seasons in the same role with the Joliet (IL) Symphony Orchestra.  At the College of Marin, he teaches courses in music history, theory, and ear training, and serves as chair of the music department. Born in Louisville, KY, Stopher holds degrees from Harvard University (BA), the University of Arizona (MM), and the Peabody Conservatory (DMA).  He lives in San Rafael with his wife, Dana Sadava, along with their dog, Summer, and cat, Darla.
